Anya’s Ghost

Anya’s Ghost
By Vera Brosgol

High-schooler Anya is embarrassed by her Russian roots and immigrant family. She’s also self-conscious about her weight and anxious to fit in with her peers. One day, Anya is so swallowed up in her angst, that she is oblivious to her surroundings and falls into an abandoned well. At the bottom of the pit, Anya discovers a skeleton which is haunted by the ghost of a young woman who died in 1918. Unable to move far from her remains, the ghost has been trapped and isolated for nearly a century. When Anya is rescued, one of the dead girl’s bones winds up in Anya’s bag, setting the dead girl free to discover a world that passed her by decades ago. By turns creepy, sarcastic and genuinely moving, this is a wonderful graphic novel for teen girls and pretty entertaining for everyone else, as well.
